There is this particular groan that happens at the start of the school year. A sort of low grumble that occurs the first time we ask students to take out paper and pencil and think about their summer. It’s often followed by a muttered “Nooooo” or “Not this again.” Sometimes, we even think we hear a mumbled, “I got nothing. I didn’t do anything exciting.”
But back to school writing doesn’t have to be dull. It doesn’t have to involve the same old, tired “What did you do over your summer vacation?” dribble. There are other, better options.
